How was the SPAR Swiss Epic medal reveal made?
A cinematic CGI reveal of the finisher medal for the SPAR Swiss Epic 2024, the mountain bike stage race held in the Swiss Alps. Its whole story is sustainability: the medal is cast from metals recovered from recycled batteries, AAA, AA and the like, instead of newly mined material, so what would have been waste becomes the reward at the finish line. The brief was a short, high-impact vertical film for social, built to make the medal feel earned, premium and tied to that recycled-material message.
The motion was driven by a Houdini particle disintegration simulation, the recycled material breaking apart and resolving into the finished medal. The shot was then assembled in Cinema 4D with the camera, staging and props, lit and rendered in Redshift for photoreal metal, paint and surface detail, with grading, glow and finishing in After Effects.
It shipped as an MP4 vertical reveal used to launch the medal and support Swiss Epic's internal launch plans, with a set of hero stills pulled from the build for supporting use.
